Christmas magic in Zurich

I love Christmas time because I love so much the Christmas decoration, the magical mood, the yummy food, and the cities turning on their Christmas lights.

Some years ago I had the pleasure to visit Zurich – one of my favorites cities in the world  – during this period. And I loved it so much!!

Zurich is absolutely enchanting during the Christmas period.

The decoration is amazingly beautiful, the ambiance is so nice and the Christmas markets, Advent concerts and mulled wine create magical ambiance.

Lucy lights up Zurich sky with diamonds!

Every year on the 3rd Thursday of November at 6 p.m. the “Lucy” lights get switched on. This means the kick-off and the whole city transfers into an enchanting winter wonderland bathed in a magical light.

The air is filled with the delicious aromas of “Glühwein” (mulled wine) and cinnamon, and  Christmas songs ring out wherever you go.

The Christmas Market at the Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) is Europe’s biggest indoor market, with more than 150 wooden huts selling all sorts of gifts and treats and yummy raclette.

But the absolute highlight of this Christkindlimarkt is a 50-ft-tall Christmas tree decorated with thousands of sparkling Swarovski crystals.img_2866

Switzerland is famous for its chocolate and at Christmastime the dreams of every chocoholic come true!  Hand-painted Santas to Christmas trees made of chocolate and nuts, truffles and pralines galore … you find everything!img_2787img_2756

If you stroll along the Bahnhofstrasse during the Advent period, sooner or later you will come across the Christmas market at Werdmühleplatz. Here you will find the Singing Christmas Tree. Rowed up on a vertical podium in the shape of an enormous Christmas tree, various choirs from the region sing Christmas carols. Absolutely lovely!

Have a wonderful 1. Advent ❤️
